From now on — no queues, cash registers and checks! Amazon, a year after the first stage of testing, opens a store without sellers and cashiers. This is a fundamentally new type of retail, which can forever change the habitual image of purchases. Fully automated Amazon Go works seamlessly and without interruption.
At the beginning of last year, the first Amazon web store was opened. But there were technical problems, and I had to postpone it until the improvement. What were the problems? Sometimes the system could not distinguish two people with the same physique. And after the children switched seats on the shelves, the sensors mistakenly identified the goods. Therefore, it was necessary to refine the system. And within a year, the company’s experts tested Amazon Go.
So, how does it all work? At the entrance you need to open the Amazon application on your smartphone, and attach the screen to a special sensor. After that, the sensor system and deep learning algorithms will begin to monitor the buyer.
Once a person takes the goods from the shelf, immediately it is identified, and its value is recorded in the online basket. If the goods are returned to the shelf, the system automatically deletes it from the list.
Technology very well recognizes products, even those that a person badly identifies. For example, drinks that look exactly the same, but in one — low-fat cream, and in the other, the usual.
For a regular buyer, the new system looks very convenient — it scanned the smartphone, took everything you want, and went. Well, the amount of purchases, will be written off, of course, with the application. There will also be a check.
The official video of Amazon on youtube:
While this technology is tested at this store, it is planned to introduce it in supermarket chains, such as Whole Foods.
The only visible downside is that thanks to robotization, hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs. Somewhere, three and a half million people in the US today work as cashiers. The company says that people will still be needed — to greet the visitors, fill the shelves with goods, and cook, for example — pastries or salads.
