The employees of museums of St. Petersburg sharply criticized Governor’s decision about the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church property. The petition is already signed by more than 150 thousand people. And today a protest at the walls of the cathedral will be held.
Such reaction of museum workers union is caused by the fact that they are afraid of closing the museum, located on the temple grounds. St. Isaac’s Cathedral will not be able to finance the exhibition hall, as does not have sufficient funds. Even in the case of preservation of the museum, it is not clear who is going to work there. The employees of the museum society are not sure that their workers will agree to go to a religious service.
In the petition, the employees ask the representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the leaders of the Leningrad region to find a way out of this situation. Otherwise, they provide additional rallies and demonstrations.
