A pastor from Sierra Leone has found one of the largest diamonds in the world. The mass of the gemstone is 709 carats. The find is currently stored in the central bank of the capital of the state, the city of Freetown.
This jewel is among the twenty most expensive stones of the world, which are known to mankind today.
It has passed into the ownership of the state. But the President of Sierra Leone assured the press that the pastor and the owner of the mine would receive an appropriate reward for such an amazing find.
Sierra Leone is a rather poor country. But on its territory, there are large deposits of gemstones.
During the civil war of 1991-2002, diamonds were the main source of financing for combat operations. Therefore, the gemstones of that time were called “bloody” in the press.
