African swine fever has caused the extinction of a large number of pigs in the south of the Odessa region. For this reason, Romania has banned the import of the Ukrainian pork into its territory.
The virus spreads very easily. It takes a lot of time to get rid of it. African swine can be found even in the sausages. Such a statement was made by the Romanian Minister of Agriculture Achim Irimesku. He added if this virus got into the territory of Romania, the country’s economy would suffer huge losses. The damage will be measured in millions of Euros.
A similar situation with Ukrainian pork has already been in the beginning of September. Armenia refused to buy meat in Ukraine because of the outbreak of African swine fever in the Volyn and Rivne regions.
