According to the established long-standing tradition, the pilgrims from all over the world come to Uman (Cherkassy region), to celebrate the Jewish New Year. The celebration began yesterday and it is continuing now.
A place for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah (translated from Hebrew – head of the year) is not chosen accidently. One of the most important Jewish shrine – the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav is situated in Uman. He is considered the founder of Hasidism. He is called tsadik, a preacher. In the Jews’ opinion, a visit to this burial place gives you a great luck for the whole year.
According to the Hasidic beliefs, this is the 5777-th New Year. More than 24 thousand pilgrims-Jews arrived in Cherkassy region. The number of patrols has been increased in the streets. The policemen maintain an order during the celebration.
