Today is the Day of Ukraine’s liberation from the fascist invaders. This holiday is very important for all Ukrainians. It plays a significant role in the history of Ukraine. Particularly fierce battles were fought on Ukrainian land during the Second World War. But 72 years ago the troops of Red Army liberated the territory of the state from the German Nazi invaders.

The decree on the establishment of this memorable date has been written in 2009 by President Victor Yuschenko. This day the inhabitants of Ukraine congratulate veterans and thank them for their acts of bravery. People lay flowers on the graves of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.

The current president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has congratulated all the inhabitants of the country on this significant date. He has stressed that people might not forget their history in order to prevent the recurrence of the similar events in the future.
