Day length increases gradually. This happens due to the slowing down of the Earth’s rotation. A group of the scientists from the UK University came to these conclusions. The studies were conducted under the direction of the astronomer Leslie Morrison.

Changing our planet’s speed of rotation is connected with global warming. As a result of the melting of the polar ice is a redistribution of mass on Earth. Another reason which has been named by the scientists was the tidal force of the Moon.

But this is a very slow process. To increase the day length for one minute nearly seven million years will be required. The day becomes longer by 1.8 milliseconds for a hundred years.

The scientists have made conclusions based on the analysis of large amounts of information about the Earth’s rotation.

The research results were published in the pages of the Proceedings of the Royal Society journal.
